Minor key signature…help?

Taking the D major scale, for example…………
“Add the correct clef, key signature and accidentals where necessary to form these scales”
Don’t worry, you won’t be doing my homework for me…there’s about 15 of these I have to do. I just don’t get it and I need the EASIEST explanation because theory goes right over my head.
B minor. Start at D. Go down three keys (I don’t know if they’re called steps, half-steps, notes, or whatever):

D Minor has the same key signature at F Major, i.e. B-flat.
